The Workbook

One small thing a day. That is the whole secret, and it is hardly a secret at all.

I am not a preacher and I am not a scholar. I am a grandmother, and what is in this workbook was learned the slow way — mornings and evenings, one day after another, for a great many years. Nobody learns these things all at once, and this book will not try to teach you all at once either.

The 30-Day "Closer to God" Workbook asks ten or fifteen minutes of you each day for thirty days. Each day is two pages: a short word and a small practice on the first, a worksheet on the second. Read the first, do the second. That is all. Bring a pen. Bring your Bible, whatever shape it is in — the worn ones are the best ones.

By the end of the month you will have four things: a morning that starts with God, a prayer list with dates on it, a way of reading the Word that stays with you past breakfast, and a page or two of His faithfulness written down in your own hand. Those four things carried me through my whole life. I pray they carry you too.

The Difference

Two mornings. The same fifteen minutes.

The scrolling morningThe quiet-time morning
A verse-of-the-day app, forgotten by lunchScripture written out by your own hand — it stays
The phone wins the first hourThe first conversation of the day goes to the Lord
Bible study you keep meaning to startOne small practice a day, with the worksheet already on the page
Pretty journals, abandoned by FebruaryA workbook you're told to write in, fold, and spill coffee on
Prayers that stay wishesA prayer list you write, date — and get to mark answered

Same fifteen minutes. One of them feeds you all day.

What's Inside

Week One · Days 1–7

The Morning

Beginning the day with God, before the world gets a word in — waking before the world, the morning words, the first conversation, a verse on the doorpost, the quiet chair, thanks before breakfast, and the Lord's Day kept.

Week Two · Days 8–14

Prayer

A working prayer life, kept in ink — start the prayer list, family by name, the sick and the struggling, the hard names, the date beside every prayer, praying out loud, and prayer in the small moments.

Week Three · Days 15–21

The Word

A Bible habit that sticks — choose your book, read slow and small, copy it by hand, the three questions, mark it and date it, one verse for the week, and tell one person.

Week Four · Days 22–28

Living It

Faith in the hands and the feet — the gratitude page, forgive one thing, the quiet giving habit, visit the lonely, peace in the house, rest without guilt, and writing your testimony.

From the Church Family

★★★★★

"I've started devotionals for years and never finished one. This one I finished — because missing Tuesday didn't mean starting over. Day 30 I signed that Covenant Page with tears on my glasses."

— Deloris · Georgia, USA
★★★★★

"Day 4 had me tape verses to the mirror and the kettle, written in my own hand. My husband asked what got into me. I told him: twenty minutes before the phone, that's what."

— Patricia · Alabama, USA
★★★★★

"Our Wednesday women's group is doing the thirty days together. The prayer list with dates beside it — I'd have paid the $19 for Week Two alone. Three answered already, marked in ink."

About Sister Lucille

Lucille Freeman — Sister Lucille

I'm Lucille Freeman — most folks just say Sister Lucille. I was raised in a praying house in the South, where the Bible sat open on the table and Sunday started on Saturday night. I've taught Sunday school, led the women's Bible study, and kept a prayer journal since before some of you were born.

This workbook is the one I wished somebody had handed me forty years ago — thirty small practices, learned the slow way, that turn meaning to into sitting down. I share the Word on my channel every week. This is how we keep it all month long.

Questions

How does the workbook work?

It's a PDF. Download it and print it at home or at the library — regular paper works fine, because this book is meant to be written in, folded, and spilled on. Ten or fifteen minutes a day: read the short word, do the worksheet. That is all.

What if I miss a day?

Missed days are not failed days. There is no catching up in this book, only continuing — pick up where you left off. The book will wait; so will the Lord.

Which Bible translation do you use?

Every day opens with Scripture from the King James Version — the wording most of us memorized at our mother's table. But the workbook sits alongside whichever Bible you love. The worn ones are the best ones.

Can I share it with my Bible study group?

The download is for your household. For a group, have each sister get her own copy — everybody needs her own worksheets to write on, and it's how the ministry stays supported.

Why only $19?

Because it shouldn't cost a tithe to sit with the Word. Nothing in this book costs money to practice, either — a pen, your Bible, and a quiet chair is the whole supply list.
